Three steps from file to finished PDF
Choose your PDF
Drop it on the box at the top of this page or press ‘Choose a file’. The tools that fit it are listed right under the file name.
Open a tool and set it up
Every tool is one screen of options, with thumbnails or a preview wherever they help: pages to reorder, a frame to crop, a spot for a signature.
Save the result
Most tools end with a ‘Download’ button, or ‘Download all (ZIP)’ when a job makes several files. What you download is a new copy; your original is never touched.
What happens to your file
The pages of a PDF are read, rearranged, drawn and written back by your browser, on your own computer or phone. Nothing is transmitted to a server along the way, so the developer never gets a copy of the lease, invoice or tax form you work on here.
To spare you from choosing the same file twice, your browser keeps a copy in IndexedDB, a storage area on this device that belongs to this site. The copy is dropped after two hours at most, or as soon as you press the × beside the file, and no more than 600 MB are held.
utilopdf is a collection of 23 single-purpose PDF tools. You can merge, split, reorder, crop and compress files; turn a PDF into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Hangul, pictures or plain text; rewrite or sign a page; fill in a form; add a watermark or page numbers; remove personal details for good; read a scan with OCR; or put a password on a file and take it off again. Each job has its own page, so you only see the options that job needs.
The tools are made for the paperwork that arrives as a PDF. Sign a lease and send it back, put invoices and receipts into one file for an expense claim, make a scanned school form searchable, turn slides into pictures to hand out, or fill in a tax form without printing it.
utilopdf is a personal project of an independent developer, with no company behind it. The tools are free to use as often as you like, and a bug report or an idea goes straight to the person who built the site.
Questions and answers
Is my PDF uploaded when I use a tool?
No. The work happens in your browser, on your device, and the PDF is never sent to this site's server. A lease, a tax form or a bank statement stays with you.
Is utilopdf really free?
Yes. Nothing costs money, no account is needed and no watermark is added to your files. Use the tools as often as you like; no ads appear on the site right now.
How large can a PDF be?
The tools set no limit on pages or file size; the ceiling is your device's memory, so a long scan goes more smoothly on a computer than it does on a phone. Only the copy kept for the next tool has a cap, 600 MB, and a bigger file is simply chosen again inside the tool.
What can I turn a PDF into?
Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), a Hangul document (.hwpx), JPG or PNG pictures, or plain text (.txt). Going the other way, JPG to PDF puts photos and screenshots into one PDF.
Do I have to choose my file again for every tool?
No. Choose a file once, here or inside any tool, and the next tool you open from this site picks it up for you. If you come back after the two hours are over, choose it again.
Which browsers and languages does it support?
Current versions of Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox on computers and phones. The pages come in English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
