PDF to Excel
Bring the rows and columns of a PDF into a spreadsheet: one sheet per page, one row per line of text, and plain amounts stored as numbers you can add up.

Your PDF is handled inside this browser tab and is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Add the PDF that holds the tables: press ‘Choose a file’, or drag the file onto the page.
- If only some pages hold tables, set ‘Pages to convert’ to ‘Page range’ and enter them, for example 2-4.
- For a scanned statement or invoice, select its language under ‘Text recognition for scanned pages’.
- Press ‘Convert to Excel’, then ‘Download’ to save the .xlsx file.
- Open the workbook and add up a column or two. Compare the sums with the totals printed in the PDF before you rely on the figures.
What it does
One sheet per page
Each converted page gets its own sheet, named Page 1, Page 2 and so on after its number in the PDF. Convert pages 4 to 6 and the sheets are called Page 4, Page 5 and Page 6, so a figure can always be traced back to its page.
Columns found by position
A new cell starts wherever the space between two pieces of text is wider than about four spaces. Cells that begin at nearly the same place across the page, within roughly 4 mm, share a column.
Plain amounts become numbers
Figures such as 1,250, 1,250.75, -12 and 45% are stored as numbers, and a percentage becomes a true percentage. Dates and codes with leading zeros, like 00417, remain text, so nothing is rewritten behind your back.
Every line is kept
Headings, notes and paragraphs become rows too, placed in the column where they start, so no line of text is lost. Delete the rows you do not need.
Scans through OCR
A page with no text layer is read with OCR (text recognition) in the languages you select, then split into rows and columns like any other page. The tool counts how many pages were read this way, and their digits deserve a second look.
Handled on your device
Statements, payroll lists and invoices are read in your browser, and the workbook is built there too. The PDF is not uploaded and it is not changed.
Good to know
A PDF does not contain a table, only words at coordinates. This tool lines the words up by their horizontal position, so the cleaner the table, the better the result. Bank and card statements, supplier price lists, timetables, invoices with item rows and exported reports convert well. Each page is a separate sheet, so a twelve-page statement arrives as twelve sheets; copy the rows onto one sheet before you sort or total across pages.
Plan a little tidying. Numbers are read the US way: commas between thousands, a period for decimals. Amounts with a currency symbol ($1,250), negatives in parentheses and figures with spaces or a decimal comma (12,50) stay text, so remove the extra characters or retype them before you total a column. A document that writes 1.250 for one thousand two hundred fifty would arrive as 1.25, so check columns written the European way. A cell that wraps onto two lines becomes two rows, merged cells are not recreated, and the sheets carry no formulas, borders or colors, only values, number formats and column widths.
If a page is mostly running text with a small table, PDF to Word keeps the text better. If the table is the point, use a page range so the workbook does not fill with sheets you do not need. Statements and invoices are documents where one misread digit matters, so after a scan has been through OCR, check the figures you will use against the original.
Questions and answers
Why did some numbers arrive as text?
Only plain figures are converted: digits with optional thousands commas, a decimal point, a minus sign or a percent sign. A currency symbol, parentheses, spaces or a decimal comma (12,50) leave the cell as text. Clean those cells in Excel, or retype the figure, before using it in a formula.
What happens with a PDF of many pages?
You get one sheet per converted page. To convert only some, set ‘Pages to convert’ to ‘Page range’ and enter something like 1-3, 5.
Why did some cells land in the wrong column?
Columns are worked out from where text starts on the page, so right-aligned amounts of very different widths, wrapped cells and merged headings can shift. There are no column settings; move the cells in Excel.
Can I convert a scanned bank statement to Excel?
Yes, once you select the document's language under ‘Text recognition for scanned pages’. A digit is occasionally misread, so check any totals against the original.
Does it keep formulas, colors or borders?
No. A PDF holds no formulas, so the workbook contains values, number formats and column widths, nothing else. Add formulas, borders and colors in Excel afterward.
Is my statement uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is read and the workbook is built in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and the original PDF stays as it was.
